New Delhi: Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) 2047, notified on Thursday, focuses on promoting development of specialised economic zones in high value sectors.

Developments along such locations as the Urban Extension Road-II is intended to promote high density compact development, integrating residential, warehousing, logistics, commercial, and other compatible uses, it says.

The plan proposes mixed-use urban centres integrated with public transport.

A shift from the past norms in MPD-2047 is the promotion of transit-oriented development (TOD), which envisions zoning and creation of affordable housing, offices, retail, education and public services concentrated around major public transport corridors.

Compact, high-density development around metro and regional transit stations will lead to reduced travel time, lower traffic congestion, higher land use efficiency, and a walkable city, the plan says.
